A round table of the working group of the BRICS Civil Society Forum "Sovereign Economic and Financial Development" was held in Moscow
On April 12, a round table of the working group of the BRICS Civil Society Forum "Sovereign Economic and Financial Development" was held at the HSE in Moscow. The event was moderated by Nikolai Ostarkov, a member of the General Council of Delovaya Rossiya LLC, co-chairman of the working group.
Leading Russian experts in the field of economics and finance, as well as representatives of the academic community, discussed the upcoming work plan of the group and key areas of its activities. Proposals from the Russian side were put on the agenda of the round table for inclusion in the position papers of the BRICS Civil Society Forum, which will be submitted for subsequent discussion in an international format with the participation of representatives of all countries of the association.
The participants of the round table discussed the current state of the international financial system and the prospects for its development. Experts drew attention to the systemic risks posed by a bubble-based system and the danger of a sudden cascading collapse of such a system. To offset these risks, the goal was set to distance ourselves from the current unipolar financial system and create a sovereign and fair financial system within the framework of the BRICS. Much attention was paid during the discussion to rethinking the prevailing narratives and the transition to cultural pluralism in the field of economics, as well as the development of new financial contours free from the dominance of the dollar. One of the results of such a transition may be the project of a special issue-processing center based on the BRICS. In this regard, according to the participants, it is necessary to increase the attractiveness of the association as an international platform for the formation of a new international financial system.
The discussion on the results of the meeting will continue at the national level in face-to-face and online formats for further discussion with representatives of the BRICS countries.
