BRICS Expert Council-Russia Holds Round Table on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies
On June 8, the BRICS Expert Council-Russia, under the auspices of the Civil BRICS Council, held a round table entitled "New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in BRICS Countries: Challenges and Prospects for Cooperation."
The event served as an important step in the preparation for the BRICS Civil Forum 2026, which will be held in India, and brought together representatives of the expert community, government authorities, businesses, scientific and educational institutions, as well as civil society organizations.
Participants discussed the key technological challenges facing BRICS countries and explored opportunities for deeper cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and technological sovereignty. Particular attention was paid to the development of a multipolar technological architecture, the advancement of indigenous digital platforms and standards, and the reduction of dependence on foreign technological solutions.
Considerable attention was devoted to cybersecurity issues. Experts noted that artificial intelligence is becoming both a tool for countering cyber threats and a target for malicious actors. In this regard, participants emphasized the need to expand cooperation among BRICS countries in the areas of knowledge sharing, joint research, and the development of effective mechanisms to address emerging digital threats.
As a result of the round table, participants formulated proposals and recommendations aimed at strengthening technological cooperation among BRICS countries, enhancing digital sovereignty, and improving approaches to the use of artificial intelligence technologies. These recommendations will be incorporated into the package of proposals prepared by Russian civil society for presentation at the BRICS Civil Forum 2026.
The round table confirmed the strong interest of the expert community in advancing practical cooperation among BRICS countries in the fields of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as their readiness to develop joint solutions in support of sustainable technological development.
