The forum was first held in 2008, that is, even before the first BRICS summit, which took place on June 18, 2009. Since the launch of the Forum, the BRICS expert community has been playing an innovative role in the development of the BRICS agenda, focusing the attention of the governments of the countries of the association on new tasks and offering a revolutionary approach to solving the challenges they face. A number of previously proposed initiatives were approved at the highest level and accelerated the development of BRICS as a global governance mechanism.

The BRICS Academic Forum is just a platform for partnership. This is a visionary format that is designed to generate breakthrough ideas, set the contours of development and the image of the future of the BRICS. It is no coincidence that many successful BRICS initiatives, in particular the New BRICS Development Bank, were proposed at the Academic Forum.
