Russian Experts Participate in the BRICS Academic Mid-Term Conference in India
The BRICS Academic Mid-Term Conference was held in India, bringing together representatives of the academic and expert communities from BRICS countries to discuss sustainable development and economic resilience in the face of today’s global challenges. The event was organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in partnership with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) and Doon University.
The conference focused on green industrial transformation, biodiversity conservation and Indigenous Knowledge Systems, as well as scaling climate finance to support the green transition. The discussions held during the conference marked an important milestone in the lead-up to the BRICS Academic Forum, which will take place in India in August 2026 and serve as a key platform for developing expert recommendations within the framework of India’s BRICS Chairship.
Russia’s expert community was represented by Victoria Panova, Head of the BRICS Expert Council-Russia, and Egor Muravev, Expert at the Institute of Natural Resources Economics and Climate Change and Lecturer at the School of World Economy, HSE University.
Victoria Panova participated in the session "Green Industrial Transformation in a Fragmented Global Economy," which explored the future of green industrial policy in BRICS countries amid increasing fragmentation of the global economy. Participants discussed the development of resilient supply chains, coordination of standards, access to critical resources and technologies, and the role of green industrialization in promoting inclusive economic growth.
Egor Muravev took part in the session "Scaling Climate Finance for the Green Transition," where experts examined challenges facing the global climate finance architecture, mechanisms for mobilizing investment in green transition projects, and the role of development institutions, including the New Development Bank, in expanding access to finance and reducing the cost of capital for emerging economies.
Discussions resulted in recommendations aimed at strengthening BRICS cooperation on climate policy, sustainable economic development, and environmental protection.
